The EYE Film Institute is comprised of two parts and is a recent conglomerate of four individual institutions. The Dutch government decided that it needed to have one film institute that represented that slice of Dutch culture and thus was born EYE. The first building we visited is in the Vondelpark area of the city and is really the research arm of the operation with it's substantial collection of holdings that represents not just The Netherlands film history, but also Europe's and the rest of the globe's as well. We were introduced to the head caretaker of the Bibliotek (library), who broke down the history of EYE and share with us the plans for the future. We were also greeted by EYE's on staff Experiment Film Historian who shared the institutes recent history and their plans to move to a brand new facility, which we received a special pre-opening tour of before it's official premier event in April.
