Day 5 - Part 3 - Jan Mot Gallery & filmmaker Manon de Boer
The last, but certainly not least, part of Day 5 included a trip to the Jan Mot Gallery for a screening of Manon de Boer's Think about Wood, Think about Metal, which is an experimental documentary of the experimental music and experiences of percussionist Robyn Schulkowsky, who spent much time in Western Europe during the 1960's and 1970's, producing experimental improvised music on a plethora of percussionist devices and spent much time with artist John Cage during that same time period. Manon de Boer's film offers much footage of Sculkowsky creating music on improvised devises as well as interviews with the artist that reference her memories of her times in Europe and the impact they had on the contemporary art world. Itself shot as an experimental documentary, the cinematic effects reference the place and times of the interviews conducted and serve to conjure emotions laden with Schulkowsky's personal memoirs.
